You want a challenge. You want a larger project. You want to reconstruct an architectural masterpiece and leave the Harry Potter Legos for your 10-year-old to enjoy.
In our guide below, we’ll be showing you some of the best Lego sets for adults: from professional architectural projects to something that a Star Wars fan won’t ever get rid of, we found some awesome options for everyone.
What to Look For
In order to find a set that will provide a challenge, here are a few things you should look for as you shop:

- Age. In order to get something that will provide you with the right level of difficulty, Lego sets that are recommended for users age 16+ are best.
- Creator. The Lego “Creator” sets, such as the ,Sydney Opera House, are exactly what you need.
They’re larger and more challenging and there are plenty of different themes to choose from.
- Expert. Be sure that it says “Expert” on the front of the box (written in the bottom right hand corner) if you are interested in the highest level of difficulty that Lego offers. Numbers 1 and 2 in our table are both “Expert” sets, but if you don’t want something that challenging, then numbers 3-6 would be a great match for you.
We’ve already taken these things into account for you in order to present the top sets in our table below, so now you get to have all the fun picking which one you’d like to build or give as a gift to the family architect!

Top 3 Best Lego Sets for Adults Reviews
1. LEGO Fairground Mixer

If you can’t visit the fair this year, why not build it in your living room instead?
This set from Lego is great for anyone who has a true passion for the Lego brand and wants to take their skills to the next level.
Don’t be fooled by the cute theme: this will still present a challenge for teens and adults alike!
Here is what you get in this set:
- 1746 Pieces Total.
- 12 mini-figures: 1 juggling man on stilts, 1 dunk tank lady, 1 strong man challenger, 1 ticket lady, 1 truck driver/ride operator, 2 women, 2 girls, 2 boys and 1 man.
- Glow-in-the-dark elements.
- Fairground accessories
The details are immaculate and while it is challenging, this would be the perfect family set for adults who also want something that they can work on with their kids.
This set does not come with a motor for the ride, it is possible to add one if you purchase the motor separately!
Additional pieces sold separately for the Lego Creator Fairground Mixer set:
Lego Power Functions 8883 medium motor Lego Power Functions 88000 AAA battery box

2. LEGO Sydney Opera House

If you want something that will take a bit more time to complete, then get the Sydney Opera House set. It has almost 3,000 pieces (way more than the last set) and some of the pieces could become collectable since they’re harder to come by.
Here is what you get in this set:
- 2989 Pieces Total.
- Rare Lego pieces, such as dark tan Lego bricks, 1x1x 2/3 stud and 1x2x 2/3 stud slopes.
- 48×48 stud baseplate in blue (the first time this was included in a Lego set).
- Includes both new and advanced building techniques.
This would be a great addition to any Lego city collection, but don’t expect to be wowed with any moving parts as you would be with the Fairground Mixer set above. The Opera House certainly presents a challenge to any Lego fan but doesn’t have any motorized parts to add.
It’s definitely a serious investment, but a good one for those who are truly looking for a good challenge and definitely one of the best Lego sets for adults that they make.
3. LEGO Pet Shop

If you like constructing buildings, then the Pet Shop townhouse will help you add another great store front to your Lego city collection.
Here is what you get in this set:
- 2032 Pieces Total.
- 4 mini-figures: pet shop owner, girl on bicycle, painter and woman.
- You also get a dog, a cat, two parrots and accessories for all of them.
- Skylight in upper loft with bed and lamp.
- Even has a basement crawl space.
Lego fans are rarely disappointed with this set thanks to the level of details and challenge that it presents.
There is actually other Lego sets available in this series, but some of them may be hard to come by since they have been discontinued.
