10 Best Smelling Candles 2020

Organizing a list of the best smelling candles was not an easy task.

Your fragrance preferences are different than ours are, so what happens if you don’t like any of the ones that we have chosen?

Not to worry: while we will be highlighting some of the most popular candle fragrances out there, the candles in our guide below are all available in different scents.

We focused on the quality of the candle and the size in order to present you with a wide variety of options, so don’t be surprised if you end up purchasing more than one!

Where to Start

If you’re overwhelmed with the choices and you’d like to narrow them down a bit, here are a few tips to help you get started:

  • Season. Think about the current season you’re in: has summer just begun or is fall drawing near?

Have the holiday cinnamon and cookie candles burned a hole through your nostrils? Perhaps you’re ready for something light and fresh as spring arrives.

Look for the scents that match the seasons, especially if you’re trying to create a special mood or atmosphere for guests that are coming to your home for a dinner party.

  • Burn Time. Be sure to check the burn time for each candle so you know how long it will last.

Remember that there are also little things that you can do to ensure that you get the most out of the candle: don’t blow the candle out until the entire top has liquefied and trim the wax away from the wick between uses if it gets too short.

This will help you maximize the burn time.

Stick With Soy

If you want our opinion (and we’re sure there are many who would agree with us), soy candles are the best scented candles out there.

Paraffin wax candles are guilty of leaving soot all over your walls and furniture, and many of them are burning toxins into the air you breathe.

Soy candles burn longer and cleaner than paraffin wax candles and they provide a stronger scent when lit.

Not all of the options above are soy, but in general, we would definitely recommend them over paraffin wax candles.

If you do want soy candles, make sure that they are not labeled as “soy blends.”

This means that the manufacturer has “cheated” by adding in lower quality ingredients and not 100% soy wax, so be sure to double check this as you shop!

Help Your Candles Last Longer

As we mentioned above our table, you can greatly prolong the life of your candle with just a few simple steps.

Wick trimmers will allow you to cut away the dark, burned portion of the wick. Doing so will allow you to cut down on soot and prolong the burn time.

Another handy item you can use is a wick dipper that allows you to push the wick down into the melted wax in order to “blow” it out.

Our suggestion is that you pick yourself up a set of quality accessories like this one from Wickman: it comes with a bell snuffer, wick trimmer and wick dipper, all made of steel.

Top 5 Best Scented Candles Reviews

1. One Fur All Pet House Candle

This candle isn’t just for pet owners; it’s great for anyone who is in need of a clean-burning candle that will fill their home with an enticing fragrance.

These are quite large, providing you with up to 70 hours of burn time, which makes them great for anyone who likes to burn candles on a daily basis.

The reason that the product is marketed toward pet owners is because the owners – David and Robert – know how pet owners feel about pet odors in the home.

They added an odor-neutralizing ingredient to their 100% natural soy wax candle that really does make it an effective option for keeping your house pet odor-free. They also use a 100% cotton wick and essential oils to obtain their heavenly fragrances. No dyes or paraffin in sight!

Mandarin Sage is just one of the many great fragrances they have: Holidays Fur All, Lavender Green Tea and Candy Cane are just a few others that many seem to enjoy.

2. Chesapeake Bay Candle Heritage Collection

Nothing says “fall” more than a pumpkin latte, and when the gooey goodness of your favorite coffee beverage is incorporated into a candle, the result is that much sweeter.

This is a wide, double-wick candle made from a blend of waxes that have been poured into a re-usable country-style tin.

This is a 9.9-ounce candle with a 20-hour burn time – not the best we’ve seen but that doesn’t stop us from loving the scent.

A few other favorites from this brand include Wild LemongrassWhite Gardenia and Aqua Marine.

3. Pure English Lavender Tealight Candles

Anyone looking for a scented tealight is in luck: Shortie’s has a relaxing lavender-scented candle that you can light at the end of a long workday to help relieve you of your stress.

These will only burn for around five hours, but that is to be expected from a candle of this size.

If you don’t mind that they are made from paraffin wax, the scent won’t disappoint you.

They also come in other floral scents such as Wisteria, Gardenia and Jasmine.

If you need a quick boost on a stressful day, these little candles pack a punch!

4. Paddywax Eco Green Soy Wax

This pomegranate and currant soy wax candle from Paddywax is another great option.

They will burn for up to 60 hours, which is pretty impressive for an 8-ounce candle.

Another thing we love is how the company uses old wine bottles as their candle jar! What a great way to reuse products and avoid waste.

A few other fragrances that are highly popular from this brand include Bamboo and Green Tea and Basil and Cucumber: two wonderfully herbal scent that will help you bring fresh garden smells indoors.

5. Our Own Candle Company Smell My Nuts

For all of you candle lovers with a sense of humor, the “Smell My Nuts” fragrance from Our Own Candle Company is definitely one of the best smelling candles on our list.

Don’t let the name fool you – they’ve mixed sumptuous blend of banana but bread, toasted coconut and hazelnut in order to offer you three layers of nutty fragrance.

They use a blend of paraffin and soy wax, so if you were hoping for a pure soy candle, you’re out of luck.

We like the packaging, too (just another way to put a mason jar to good use) but you should definitely set it on a heatproof surface when it is lit, especially when it burns down to the bottom of the jar.

If nut smells aren’t your thing, we hear their “Mmm…Nice Melons!” scent is also good, which is a mixture of honeydew melon, summer melon and watermelon.
